Set yourself some New Year goals

With only 10 days to go to 2016, have you been thinking about whether or not to set yourself some New Year resolutions? I’d like to suggest that this year you ditch the resolutions and set yourself some serious goals instead! The thing about resolutions is that by the end of January, we have more than likely abandoned them. Why is this? Well, the main reason is that we were never really committed to them anyway. They were wishes, preferences, but not commitments.

What I propose you do for the next 10 days is take a notebook or diary and start writing down all the things you want to do in 2016 in the following categories: intellectual, physical, social, community, wealth, spiritual. Here’s an example for each category:

Intellectual: you’d like to read more books. Choose 12 books in advance and commit to reading one per month.

Physical: you’d like to travel more often. Choose 3-4 destinations and plan the trips already.

Social: you’d like to make new friends. Join Meetup and find groups with similar interests to you. Then sign up and go along to their meetings.

Community: you’d like to volunteer. Find an organisation that inspires you and contact them to offer your services one afternoon per week.

Wealth: you’d like to earn more money. Commit to becoming an excellent money manager and start budgeting your finances.

Spiritual: you’d like to feel more at peace with yourself. Take up the practice of meditation and get still for at least 10 minutes once a day.

Don’t let 2016 be a repeat of 2015! Chart your New Year over the next 10 days, so that when we chime in the New Year, your plan is ready, set, go!
